A New European Bauhaus iniciative

  •                 “Stüa is a nomadic collective that brings people together to activate spaces through building modular, transportable structures, centered around a communal oven. Our work invites communities to join a hands-on, co-creative process, using diverse construction techniques to shape shared spaces.

We see the act of making bread—mixing water and flour into a living dough—as a metaphor for imagining and shaping our collective future. As we knead, we reflect on what we want our communities to be, and how we can break down rigid structures to create more inclusive, caring environments for everyone.

Our work builds a network of connection between individuals, communities, and nature—like a mycelial web of shared stories and desires. Together, we create an evolving map of possibilities for the future.

“Innovation must always be thought of from the perspective of cooperation in order to create a sustainable basis for progress. Above all, this means that when we think of innovation, we should not always think about technology, but about people. With this perspective, we analyzed and evaluated the projects and finally selected Stüa. Stüa takes up an important aspect of the local South Tyrolean heritage and presents it in a new and different way. It takes the very familiar concept of the parlor and locates it in the public space, in the middle of the community, in which it opens up and the components of warmth and of food as a link.”

“Rammed earth is used as a traditional building material all over the world; in South Tyrol, clay can also be removed from various places , explain Merino and Tobias Tavella . The latter works as an artist in South Tyrol, his works and sound performances have been seen and heard in the Bolzano Museion and the Brixen City Gallery, among others. It is not surprising that the winning project of the “BED&BASIS Challenge” also bears Tavella’s signature, as his portfolio, like Stüa’s, impresses with its reinterpretation of everyday objects and natural materials.”

“Simon Tumler is equally enthusiastic: The winning project Stüa has a lot of potential to bring people together and strengthen a community. The Stube - a concept that is deeply rooted in our community, can also bring different people and generations together here in Schlanders and create a public place for inclusion. But the beauty of it is that the project can be replicated anywhere, meaning many different places and communities can benefit from it.
