ABITARSI
- “Stüa is a nomadic collective that brings people together to activate spaces through building modular, transportable structures, centered around a communal oven. Our work invites communities to join a hands-on, co-creative process, using diverse construction techniques to shape shared spaces.
We see the act of making bread—mixing water and flour into a living dough—as a metaphor for imagining and shaping our collective future. As we knead, we reflect on what we want our communities to be, and how we can break down rigid structures to create more inclusive, caring environments for everyone.
Our work builds a network of connection between individuals, communities, and nature—like a mycelial web of shared stories and desires. Together, we create an evolving map of possibilities for the future.
Project Status
STÜA PROTOTYPE-01
OVEN O1 has evolved from a rigid, monumental structure into OVEN O2
- a transportable, nomadic, and modular oven designed to be adaptable and communal.
The OVEN O2 prototype is a mobile, modular oven designed with versatility and adaptability in mind. Its mobile structure allows it to be deployed in a variety of locations without the need for building permits, making it a
flexible and accessible solution for different communities. This oven functi-
ons much like a nomadic living room and creates communal spaces that can
thrive in both urban and remote environments, fostering connections and a
sense of belonging wherever it goes.
The essence of OVEN O2 lies in its ability to integrate into diverse
environments, facilitating co-creational design processes that actively invol-
ve local communities. This collaborative approach, inspired by the concept
of a „caravan of necessity,“ ensures that the oven not only serves practical needs but also becomes a platform for creative exchange and cultural
expression.
Born out of the necessity to create communal spaces in urban areas lacking
social and cultural infrastructure, the mobile nature of OVEN O2 addresses
this gap by providing a versatile, movable hub that brings people together,
fosters dialogue, and supports community-driven initiatives.
The wooden construction for our Oven trail was realized in collaboration with the southtyrolian carpenter Matthias Pötz.
Special thanks to kids kulture club for sponsoring their spare wood of their crazy Flaminga structure.
DESIGN.
The OVEN O2 is engineered for mobility and versatility, enabling it to be
utilized across various contexts and communities with ease. Its design incor-
porates a traditional brick construction, offering substantial thermal mass
and energy efficiency, which supports high-capacity communal baking.
In contrast to conventional mobile metal ovens, the OVEN O2 combines
durability and efficiency with a time-tested approach to heat retention and
cooking performance.
The oven is integrated into a modular trailer system, which can be folded
and unfolded to provide an optimal balance between transportability, stora-
ging and stability. This trailer, designed for long-distance mobility, functions
as both the transportation mechanism and the structural base for the oven.
It ensures a stable platform that supports the oven and facilitates secure
storage of ancillary tools and equipment.
TOOLBOX
OF NECESSITY:
We are developing a „TOOLBOX OF NECESSITY“ as part of the OVEN O2
imagined as a dynamic, evolving collection of resources that grows, adapts,
and changes with each community and project that the oven carries and
engages with. As the oven travels and integrates into diverse environments,
the toolbox continually expands, incorporating new tools and knowledge
from fields like pedagogy, social work, literature, activism, agriculture, and
culinary arts. This library will serve as an educational and awareness-raising
resource, designed to engage and sensitize those we encounter—passen-
gers, community members, and the broader public—on important environ-
mental and social issues
